The Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano (SVBG), the historic sailing club behind the Barcolana regatta, has renewed its board of directors following a general assembly held on Sunday in Trieste.
Mitja Gialuz was confirmed as president, continuing a tenure that began in 2014. His list was the only one submitted, reflecting widespread support within the club. The new board will serve a three-year term and includes a mix of returning and new members. Dean Bassi, formerly responsible for offshore sports activities, was appointed vice president. Mauro Parladori, who previously served as president from 2002 to 2005, will now oversee offshore operations.
The assembly introduced a new governance feature: the role of associate board members, aimed at broadening participation. Financial reports and the upcoming budget were approved unanimously.
Several new members were welcomed to the club, including Luna Rossa sailor Andrea Tesei. The assembly also named sailors Alice Linussi and Maria Vittoria Marchesini as honorary members, recognizing their contribution to Italy’s victory in the first Women’s America’s Cup. Honorary memberships were also awarded to University of Trieste Rector Roberto Di Lenarda and former Trieste Police Commissioner Pietro Ostuni.
The SVBG continues to play a central role in Trieste’s maritime culture, notably through its organization of the internationally renowned Barcolana regatta.
