In response to a growing wave of increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes, Trieste authorities are stepping up public education efforts aimed at protecting vulnerable citizens.
On Tuesday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m., the Quarantotti Gambini Municipal Library in Trieste’s San Giacomo district will host the final session of a three-part informational series titled “Protecting Yourself from Scams: Tips and Strategies.” The event is being held in collaboration with the national police force, the Carabinieri, along with the cooperatives LA.SE and La Collina.
The seminars have been led by officers from the Carabinieri stations of via dell’Istria and Borgo San Sergio. Officials say the initiative was launched following a noticeable uptick in fraud cases involving senior citizens and other at-risk individuals.
According to organizers, the objective of the program is to equip attendees with practical tools to recognize warning signs and avoid falling victim to scams. The sessions also stress the importance of promptly reporting suspicious behavior to law enforcement.
While authorities have not disclosed recent figures, they describe the trend as “concerning,” with fraud tactics evolving rapidly and often targeting those least prepared to respond.
In addition to offering prevention strategies, the program encourages greater coordination between institutions and community organizations as a key component in mitigating the impact of fraud.
