A historic mountain hut nestled at the entrance of the Val Rosandra, near the village of Bagnoli della Rosandra in FVG, reopened Thursday following a major renovation. The Mario Premuda Hut, built in 1940 by the Società Alpina delle Giulie — the Trieste section of the Italian Alpine Club — marked the beginning of a new chapter with a ceremony attended by regional and municipal authorities.

The reopening event, held at 5 p.m. on April 17, featured a flag-raising conducted by the local “Guido Corsi” branch of the Alpini, Italy’s mountain infantry corps. Dignitaries in attendance included Aleksander Coretti, mayor of San Dorligo della Valle; Pierpaolo Roberti, regional councillor for local autonomies representing Friuli Venezia Giulia President Massimiliano Fedriga; Serena Tonel, deputy mayor of Trieste; and Michele Babuder, Trieste’s councillor for land policies.
Members of the Società Alpina delle Giulie were joined by representatives from several of its affiliated groups, particularly those with historical ties to the hut, such as the GARS (Mountaineers, Rock Climbers and Skiers Group) and the Emilio Comici National Mountaineering School.
The Mario Premuda Hut, last renovated in 1989, had been closed for a year and a half to allow for extensive upgrades. The building has undergone structural and technical improvements, including a new roof, updated façades, replacement of windows and doors, and a full overhaul of utility systems to bring them in line with modern standards. The kitchen facilities were also fully renovated.
Management of the hut has been assigned to Almost Blue srls, a company led by Franco Bulli, who will also serve as hutkeeper. The company was responsible for the interior furnishings and modernization of the kitchen equipment.
The renovation is part of a broader effort to preserve and revitalize the region’s alpine heritage, while improving services for hikers and visitors drawn to the natural beauty of the Val Rosandra.
