As Friuli Venezia Giulia co-hosts the 2025 European Capital of Culture, a new regional app aims to transform how residents and tourists navigate public transportation.
Launching May 1, the Glimble FVG app will allow users to plan journeys and purchase tickets for buses, trains, ferries, bike sharing, and even cross-border routes into Slovenia. The service is designed to support travel during GO! 2025, the cross-border cultural initiative between Italy and Slovenia.
Funded with €1.7 million from the regional government and part of Italy’s national MaaS for Italy program, Glimble FVG is one of the first full-scale implementations of a Mobility-as-a-Service platform in the country—surpassing pilot efforts currently underway in cities like Bologna and Turin.
The app’s early launch was accelerated to meet the expected rise in mobility demands during the Capital of Culture year. Regional officials hope the platform will eventually expand beyond transport to integrate other public services.
“This is a concrete step toward smarter, more connected travel in our region,” said Aniello Semplice, CEO of regional transit provider Tpl Fvg.
