In a special edition of Opera Caffè, Australian soprano Jessica Pratt will meet the public in an informal conversation at the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi on Wednesday, April 23, at 5:00 p.m. The event, organized by the Giulio Viozzi Association of Friends of Opera in collaboration with Trieste’s Teatro Lirico G. Verdi, coincides with the local staging of Lucia di Lammermoor, Gaetano Donizetti’s dramatic masterpiece, in which Pratt performs the title role.
Held in the Victor de Sabata Hall at the Ridotto of Teatro Verdi, the gathering offers audiences a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of today’s most acclaimed interpreters of bel canto repertoire. Hosted by Elisabetta d’Erme and Oscar Cecchi, the conversation will explore Pratt’s artistic journey, musical insights, and personal anecdotes in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Described by The New York Times as a soprano with “a sparkling sound, effortless high notes, agile coloratura, and lyrical delicacy,” Pratt has established herself as a leading figure in one of opera’s most technically demanding traditions. Born in Bristol, United Kingdom, in 1979 and raised in Sydney, Australia, Pratt began playing the trumpet at the age of eight before turning to vocal studies at eighteen under the guidance of her father, Phil, a tenor.
She later refined her operatic technique in Italy with renowned soprano Renata Scotto and conductor Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. She currently prepares her roles with soprano Lella Cuberli. After a career that has taken her to many of the world’s leading opera houses, Pratt now resides in the Tuscan countryside near Fiesole with her husband, Riccardo.
The event is free and open to the public, offering Trieste’s opera lovers a glimpse behind the curtain into the life and artistry of one of the genre’s foremost voices.
