From April 23 to 25, the University of Trieste will host EvoStar, Europe’s leading scientific conference on bio-inspired artificial intelligence. Now in its 27th edition, the event is organized under the auspices of SPECIES, the Society for the Promotion of Evolutionary Computation in Europe and its Surroundings.

First held in Paris in 1998, EvoStar returns to Italy for the first time since 2018, when it was hosted in Parma. The annual conference draws hundreds of researchers from around the world, known both for the high caliber of its scientific contributions and for its welcoming, collaborative atmosphere.

This year’s edition includes participants from over 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and the Netherlands. Scholars are also attending from outside Europe, representing institutions in the United States, Brazil, India, China, and Japan.

EvoStar comprises four parallel conferences, each focusing on a different facet of bio-inspired AI:

  • EuroGP, now in its 28th edition, is one of the foremost conferences on genetic programming and a key event in the field of evolutionary computation.
  • EvoApplications explores real-world applications of evolutionary computing, with sessions ranging from social network analysis and language model integration to digital healthcare, personalized medicine, and game design.
  • EvoCOP, the 25th European Conference on Combinatorial Optimization, focuses on evolutionary and metaheuristic techniques to solve complex optimization problems arising in industry, economics, and science.
  • EvoMUSART, now in its 14th edition, brings together researchers working at the intersection of AI and the creative arts, covering music, sound, visual art, and design. The multidisciplinary event showcases how bio-inspired algorithms can contribute to artistic expression and innovation.

By bringing together diverse communities working on evolutionary algorithms and their applications, EvoStar continues to be a central meeting point for advancing the frontiers of AI in Europe and beyond.
