Starting April 24 and running through May 4, 2025, the panoramic bar at the Rotondo Bastion of San Giusto Castle will open its doors for a series of special evening hours, offering locals and visitors alike a unique vantage point to enjoy spring sunsets over Trieste.
These extended hours coincide with Italy’s late April and early May holiday period, during which the bar will welcome guests from 7 p.m. to midnight, Sunday through Thursday, and until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is free, subject to capacity limits.
The initiative serves as a preview of the bar’s upcoming summer season under its new management by Midnight Srl, which took over operations in 2024. The season’s offerings will include a redesigned outdoor seating area and refreshed décor highlighting the scenic terrace that crowns the historic bastion.
The program will feature a rotating schedule of cultural events, sunset guided tours of the bastion, and evenings set to live or ambient music. The bar’s team — with experience from venues such as Cemut, Stazione Rogers outdoor, and Barakin San Giusto — aims to create a refined yet relaxed setting for evening aperitifs with a view.
Located within the “Casa del Capitano,” the oldest and most evocative part of the castle complex, the Bastion Bar is open daily during museum hours. Built in the late 15th century under Emperor Frederick III of Habsburg as a symbol of imperial power in Trieste, the fortress later saw additions by the Venetians, including the Rotondo Bastion in the early 1500s.
Perched on this bastion, the bar’s outdoor tables offer sweeping views of the city and the sea, making it one of Trieste’s most atmospheric spots to enjoy a drink as the sun sets over the Adriatic.
