The Scienza e Virgola (Science and Comma) Festival in Trieste will host the five finalists for the newly established Strega Nonfiction Prize on Sunday, May 11, marking the first public event to feature all nominated authors together.

The panel discussion will take place at Teatro Miela at 6:30 p.m. and is part of the festival’s ninth edition, which runs from May 6 to 11. The event is free and open to the public.

The Strega Nonfiction Prize, introduced this year as an extension of Italy’s prestigious Strega literary award, recognizes excellence in nonfiction writing. The five finalists are:

  • Alessandro Aresu, Geopolitica dell’intelligenza artificiale (Feltrinelli)
  • Anna Foa, Il suicidio di Israele (Laterza)
  • Vittorio Lingiardi, Corpo, umano (Einaudi)
  • Simone Pieranni, 2100. Come sarà l’Asia, come saremo noi (Mondadori)
  • Luigi Zoja, Narrare l’Italia. Dal vertice del mondo al Novecento (Bollati Boringhieri)

The panel will be moderated by Alberto Bollis, executive deputy editor of the media group NEM.

The Scienza e Virgola Festival is organized by the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of SISSA, a postgraduate research institution in Trieste, with artistic direction by author Paolo Giordano and scientific coordination by Nico Pitrelli.
