Trieste authorities have coordinated a comprehensive security plan for the upcoming April 25th commemorations, which will include several public events across the city. To ensure safety, the Trieste police and Carabinieri have called in reinforcements from other cities. The operation will involve over 120 personnel, including police officers, Carabinieri, finance police, bomb disposal experts, and private security. Local police will also manage traffic with ten patrols stationed around the city.
The security measures are in place to ensure the peaceful conduct of the ceremony at the Risiera di San Sabba, the site of significant historical importance. A final security meeting, led by Police Chief Lilia Fredella, was held on Thursday morning, with last-minute decisions expected to be made on Friday morning. Officers will be equipped with riot gear, though helmets and shields will only be used if necessary, based on the situation on the ground.
The security operation will be in effect through the night from Thursday to Friday, not only around the Risiera but also near other sensitive locations in the city.
On April 25th, Via Palatucci will be closed to vehicle traffic. Members of the public will be able to reach the entrance on foot through two designated checkpoints. These entrances, located at the ends of Via Palatucci at Via Valmaura and Via Rio Primario, will be secured by security personnel to ensure no prohibited items are brought into the event. Access will then be granted through the main gate of the Memorial.
A range of events has been planned for the day, with additional public order services assigned to each. The solemn ceremony at the Risiera, scheduled for 11 a.m., will be the centerpiece of the day. In addition, a walk organized by Cgil, the 25 April Committee, and Anpi will depart at 9 a.m. from Via dell’Istria and head toward the Risiera. In the afternoon, at 3 p.m., the same organizations will host the Passeggiata della Resistenza, a march from Servola to San Giacomo.
A march, widely advertised through posters and social media, is also set to depart from Campo San Giacomo at 8:30 a.m. However, it was revealed that this event has not been formally communicated to law enforcement, and no organizing body has been identified. The march is also expected to head toward the Risiera.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely, ensuring the safety of all those attending these significant events.
