A new five-year agreement between the Giuliano Isontina University Health Authority (Asugi) and the Carabinieri Command of Friuli Venezia Giulia will offer discounted medical services to members of the Carabinieri and their families, regional health authorities announced Wednesday.

The agreement provides a 15 percent reduction on a wide range of specialist medical consultations for active-duty Carabinieri stationed in Trieste and Gorizia, as well as for their family members up to the second degree of kinship and for retired personnel. The services will be delivered by more than 100 healthcare professionals at hospitals in Trieste, Gorizia, and Monfalcone. Appointments can be scheduled through the standard booking systems used for private, in-hospital medical services.

Speaking in Trieste at the presentation of the initiative, Regional Health Councillor Riccardo Riccardi emphasized the importance of institutional cooperation between healthcare providers and law enforcement.

“The regional administration strongly believes in institutional partnerships between our health agencies and the law enforcement bodies operating in our region,” Riccardi said. “These agreements must be expanded, because it is essential to care for the health of those whose profession is to protect our citizens.”

He also underscored the broader cultural significance of the agreement, calling it a necessary step toward ensuring that those who serve the public are able to do so with peace of mind.

“As a country, we must improve our ability to offer proper guarantees to those who look after our communities. This new measure signed by Asugi and the Carabinieri is certainly a move in that direction,” Riccardi said.

The convention was formally signed by representatives of Asugi and the Carabinieri during the presentation event.
