A bomb scare in the heart of Trieste prompted police to seal off part of Via Mazzini Monday morning after two suspicious backpacks were found abandoned on the sidewalk near the corner with Via Imbiani.

The alert was raised shortly before 9:45 a.m. when someone called Italy’s emergency number, 112, reporting the unattended bags. Police quickly arrived on the scene, cordoning off the area and calling in bomb disposal experts to carry out safety checks.

The incident caused significant disruption to traffic and public transportation, as several bus lines were rerouted or delayed due to the street closure.

After a thorough investigation, authorities confirmed that the backpacks did not contain any explosives. According to the local newspaper Il Piccolo, the bags had been reported stolen prior to the bomb threat. The investigation into who left them at the scene is still ongoing.
