The city is set to welcome runners, families, and sports enthusiasts as the Trieste Spring Run kicks off on Tuesday, launching a five-day celebration of athletics and community spirit that will culminate in a half marathon on Sunday, May 4.
The highlight of the event will be the competitive half marathon, tracing a scenic route from the historic Duino Castle to the iconic Piazza Unità d’Italia in the heart of Trieste. Organized by APD Miramar in collaboration with ASD Trieste Atletica APS, and co-organized by the Municipality of Trieste with support from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the event combines high-level sport with an emphasis on inclusivity and community engagement.
“This is not only a sporting event, but also an opportunity to bring people together—families, friends, and communities—for a fun and carefree morning outdoors,” said Regional Councillor for Local Authorities, Pierpaolo Roberti, speaking at today’s press conference on behalf of the regional government. “The Region continues to support initiatives like these that help showcase the beauty of our territory.”
In addition to the main race, the week will feature the Trieste Spring Young, dedicated to primary school children (taking place on Tuesday), and the Bavisela Family Run, a non-competitive event for all ages set for Sunday, starting from Miramare Castle.
Roberti noted the event’s role in promoting the region to visitors and residents alike. “Every year, seeing so many participants stop to photograph the coastal road as they come out of the Sistiana overpass—even mid-race—speaks volumes about the promotional power of the Spring Run. It’s like a postcard of a land whose appeal continues to grow.”
He also highlighted the vital contribution of the volunteers who help make events like these possible. “Throughout the year, the sports calendar in Friuli Venezia Giulia brings attention to some of the region’s most picturesque locations,” Roberti said, “and it’s thanks to the dedication of so many volunteers that these events can be organized and enjoyed by all.”
The Trieste Spring Run promises not only athletic competition but a festive atmosphere for the whole city, bridging sport, tourism, and community celebration in one of Italy’s most captivating coastal regions.
