Renowned volleyball coach Julio Velasco will receive an honorary degree in psychology from the University of Trieste on Monday, May 12, in recognition of his contributions to the field of sports and his broader impact on leadership and education.

The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. in the university’s Aula Magna, where Velasco will also deliver a lectio magistralis. The honorary degree is being awarded by the Department of Life Sciences, which houses the university’s Sport Psychology Laboratory—an institution active for more than 25 years.
Velasco, who was born in La Plata, Argentina, in 1952, has had a distinguished international coaching career, with major successes in Italy and abroad. Known not only for his technical expertise but also for his broader reflections on teamwork, leadership, and motivation, Velasco’s influence now extends beyond the world of sports. His insights are studied and cited by educators, corporate leaders, and organizational coaches around the world.
Despite a career decorated with championships and accolades, Velasco is increasingly recognized for the universal relevance of his message—a message that continues to resonate in classrooms, boardrooms, and training fields alike.
