Two nature photography exhibitions are currently on view in Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo, offering a rich visual exploration of wildlife and local coastal landscapes. Open to the public until May 4, 2025, the exhibitions are part of a cultural initiative by the Municipality of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism, in collaboration with the Italian Association of Nature Photographers (AFNI).
In the Sbisà Gallery, visitors can explore Asferico, a showcase of the finalist images from the 18th edition of the Asferico International Nature Photography Competition. With over 18,000 submissions from around the world, the competition is considered one of the most prestigious in the field. The exhibit features stunning photographs of landscapes, birds, plants, insects, and mammals, offering a kaleidoscopic journey through nature’s diversity.
Next door, in the Fini Gallery, the exhibit Terraemare presents a more local perspective. Created by photographers from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, the project documents the coastal zones of northeastern Italy — areas shaped by the sea and known for their high biodiversity. The images span the changing seasons, capturing the flora, fauna, and natural rhythms of this unique landscape.
A brief naturalistic overview of the territory, curated by naturalist, science communicator, and author Michele Zanetti, accompanies the Terraemare exhibit.
Both exhibitions are free of charge and open Thursday through Sunday, as well as on public holidays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
