The City of Trieste has formally begun a renovation project at the San Giacomo Skate Park, located on via Petitti di Roreto. The announcement was made during a press conference on Monday, May 5, 2025, attended by city officials and technical staff involved in the project.
The works, categorized as extraordinary maintenance, will include the installation of a new perimeter fence measuring 2.4 meters in height. The structure is designed to prevent unauthorized entry outside of opening hours and to reduce the risk of vandalism, which has affected the facility in the past.
Councillor for Territorial Policies Michele Babuder stated that the intervention aims to improve the safety and usability of the space, which is frequently used by young people. “The facility needed protection to prevent further damage and to address concerns from residents about nighttime access,” Babuder said.
The renovation is scheduled to last approximately 120 days. The project includes the replacement of the existing metal fencing with a vandal-resistant and anti-climb design, while maintaining compliance with current regulations for sports and recreational areas.
Also present at the announcement were project designer and works director Francesca Bellanca, assistant site manager Massimo Leotta, structural engineer Andrea Puppin, and site safety coordinator Paolo Prestigiovanni. Officials noted that work will be planned to minimize disruption for users, while ensuring safety remains the top priority.
