In the wake of the passing of Pope Francis, the diocesan branch of Caritas in Trieste is inviting people of all backgrounds—believers and non-believers alike—to come together for a moment of collective remembrance and reflection. The gathering is set for Tuesday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bishop’s Seminary on Via Besenghi 16.

The event, open to the wider public, seeks to create a space where individuals can share memories, reflections, and personal experiences tied to the late pontiff, who was known globally for his dedication to dialogue, peace, care for the environment, and his unwavering attention to society’s most vulnerable. Organizers describe the gathering as an opportunity to “sit side by side” in remembrance of a figure who often called on the world not to lose hope.

Bishop Enrico Trevisi of Trieste will be present at the meeting, which takes place on the eve of the opening of the papal conclave in Vatican City—when the College of Cardinals will convene in the Sistine Chapel to elect the next pope.

Pope Francis, who led the Catholic Church through a period marked by both internal challenges and broad societal shifts, is remembered for emphasizing unity and compassion. His frequent appeals, such as “Do not let anyone steal your hope,” have left a lasting impression on many across the globe, regardless of faith.

The event in Trieste reflects a broader mood of contemplation and gratitude as the Church and the world prepare to welcome a new leader.
