Interview: Pierpaolo Roberti, FVG Councilor for Local Authorities
The 12th edition of Maker Faire Trieste will take place on Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, organizers announced Tuesday during a press conference at City Hall.
The event, dedicated to innovation, creativity, science, and technology, will transform the city center into an open-air showcase for inventors, researchers, and tech enthusiasts.
The press conference was attended by local and regional officials, including Pierpaolo Roberti, Regional Councillor for Local Authorities, Civil Service, Security and Immigration; Lorenzo Bandelli, Director of Innovation and Citizen Services for the City of Trieste; Francesco Ruzzier, Head of Communications at La Cappella Underground; and Carlo Fonda, coordinator of the event and long-time advocate for the maker community. The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), one of the event’s scientific partners, was represented by mathematician Claudio Arezzo.
Sandra Savino, the City Councillor for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition, addressed the gathering remotely from Rome. She emphasized the event’s role in reinforcing Trieste’s identity as a forward-looking, innovation-driven city.
“Maker Faire serves as a strategic meeting point between knowledge and know-how, connecting research with entrepreneurship, and bridging schools, universities, and younger generations,” Savino said. “As a city administration, we strongly believe in the cultural, educational, and social value of events like this, which help bring citizens closer to the challenges of digital and technological transformation in an engaging and inclusive way.”
The initiative is supported by a network of institutions and organizations, including ICTP, the City of Trieste, and youth and civic engagement centers such as Punto Giovani PAG and Europe Direct.
