A long-awaited urban redevelopment project in the Roiano district of Trieste was officially unveiled today with a public ceremony marking the completion of work on the former State Police (Polstrada) site in Via Montorsino.

Mayor Roberto Dipiazza led the inauguration alongside Elisa Lodi, City Councilor for Public Property, and Pierpaolo Roberti, Regional Councilor for Local Autonomies, Public Administration, Security, and Immigration. Also in attendance were city and regional officials, representatives from public works offices, members of the military and civil authorities, and executives from the utility company AcegasApsAmga, including CEO Roberto Gasparetto.

More than 200 children from local schools—Emo Tarabochia Primary School and the municipal kindergartens Isola dei Tesori and Delfino Blu—joined the event, along with numerous residents from the neighborhood.

The revitalized area, once home to a police outpost, now includes a nursery, a 99-space rotating-use parking lot, and a newly designed playground. The transformation aims to improve everyday life for Roiano residents by offering more accessible green space and modern public services.

Addressing the crowd, Mayor Dipiazza emphasized the significance of the project for the community. “Seeing all these children, full of life, fills my heart with joy and hope for the future,” he said. “We’ve changed how this vital part of the city lives and breathes.”

The mayor also expressed gratitude to the municipal technical teams responsible for executing the project, acknowledging the challenges encountered during the process. “I know it hasn’t always been easy,” he said. “But all of this was born from deep commitment and passion for our community.”

Councilor Roberti described the redevelopment as “an important day for both Roiano and the city of Trieste,” noting that the project’s successful completion fulfills a long-standing need for green space and public facilities in the area.

The large turnout by local residents underscored the public’s interest in and support for the redevelopment. The reopening marks a milestone in the city’s broader effort to enhance urban infrastructure and community wellbeing through targeted investments in formerly underused public spaces.
