The 16th edition of the Infiorata di Opicina, a popular community flower festival, was officially presented at Trieste’s City Hall on Wednesday, May 14. The event, which coincides with the arrival of spring, is scheduled to return in 2025.

Organized by the local consortium Insieme a Opicina in co-organization with the Municipality of Trieste and in collaboration with local civic and cultural associations, the festival celebrates the tradition of decorating homes, gardens, and public spaces with flowers and plants.

The free competition, open to all local residents, rewards the most beautiful gardens, balconies, storefronts, and apartment buildings. Starting next year, the contest will also include traffic islands, roundabouts, and pedestrian areas.

The 2024 edition saw a record 62 participants. The initiative aims to beautify the Carso village and encourage the preservation of local customs and community pride.

Deputy Mayor and Economic Policy Councillor Serena Tonel led the presentation, joined by municipal and district representatives, as well as organizers and community leaders. Tonel praised the event for its ability to unite the community and highlight Opicina’s strong local identity.
