After nearly a decade, Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto returned to the stage of Teatro Verdi this Friday in a new production that reimagines the classic opera through a modern lens.
Directed by Vivien Hewitt and conducted by Daniel Oren, the revival brought together an international cast led by Mongolian baritone Amartuvshin Enkhbat in the title role. The soprano Enkeleda Kamani sings Gilda, with tenor Galeano Salas as the Duke of Mantua.
The production, presented by the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste, emphasizes the opera’s enduring themes of power, vengeance, and sacrifice, while exploring their resonance with contemporary audiences. The visual and dramatic choices reflect a commitment to renewing Verdi’s 1851 work without compromising its core emotional force.
Performances run from May 16 to 25 in Trieste, with a special staging scheduled for May 31 in Udine.
