On Friday, May 23, the rose garden of Trieste’s Parco di San Giovanni will host the third installment of the annual Rose Libri Musica Vino festival, now in its 14th edition. Organized by the social cooperative Agricola Monte San Pantaleone in collaboration with the University of Trieste, this year’s edition revolves around the theme of power.

The evening’s featured guest will be Mario Del Pero, a professor of International History and U.S. Foreign Policy at Sciences Po in Paris. A prominent voice in the field, Del Pero will lead a discussion titled “Il potere delle potenze” — The Power of Powers — with a focus on the contemporary role of the United States on the world stage.

The event arrives at a moment of renewed global attention to American politics, following the commencement of Donald Trump’s second presidential term. As the U.S. reasserts itself internationally and confronts internal political shifts, scholars and observers alike are debating whether this renewed power leans toward assertiveness — or veers into authoritarianism and neo-imperial ambition.

Del Pero is expected to address these complexities, drawing on historical context to analyze the current trajectory of American foreign and domestic policy. His lecture forms part of the festival’s broader reflection on how power is shaped, perceived, and exercised — a theme explored through a multidisciplinary program that includes literary readings, musical performances, and wine tastings.

Set in one of Trieste’s most evocative public parks, the festival continues to offer a space for both cultural celebration and critical inquiry. With events like this, Rose Libri Musica Vino reaffirms its role as a meeting point between ideas and aesthetics, local tradition and global dialogue.
