The minority parties in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Council — including the Democratic Party (PD), Patto per l’Autonomia, and the Mixed Group — walked out of the chamber on Tuesday afternoon at the start of the scheduled discussion on a multisectoral bill.
The protest came after a request from PD’s Diego Moretti to schedule a statement from President Massimiliano Fedriga or a representative of his government was denied. The request sought clarification on the current political tensions within the center-right coalition, sparked by remarks from Minister Luca Ciriani regarding the state of healthcare in the Pordenone area.
The opposition argued that, following the temporary relinquishing of their mandates by all regional ministers except those from the Brothers of Italy party, the remaining cabinet members lacked the political legitimacy to take part in the legislative debate.
Regional Council President Mauro Bordin rejected the request, stating that the regional ministers remain in office, as no formal notice of resignation had been submitted to the Council.
At a press conference, opposition leaders Moretti, Massimo Moretuzzo, and Furio Honsell Capozzi criticized the refusal to schedule a government statement, calling it unacceptable given the significance of the issue. They reiterated concerns over what they see as a political — if not formal — lack of legitimacy in proceeding with the debate under the current circumstances.
After a brief suspension following the walkout, with only center-right members remaining in the chamber, the Council resumed its session and proceeded to approve all 80 articles of the bill.
