Interviews: Giorgio Rossi, the city’s Councilor for Culture and Tourism; president of Federalberghi Trieste Maurizio Giudici

Trieste officials on Wednesday unveiled the 2025 edition of Trieste Estate, the city’s sprawling summer cultural program. The initiative, organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism, will feature nearly 300 events across music, theater, dance, film, and other artistic disciplines.

At a press conference held May 21, Giorgio Rossi, the city’s Councilor for Culture and Tourism, presented the lineup alongside Francesca Locci, director of the city’s department for tourism promotion, museums, cultural and sports events. Artistic direction will be led by Gabriele Centis for the music sector and Lino Marrazzo for theater.

Also in attendance were key representatives from Trieste’s cultural and hospitality sectors, including newly elected president of Federalberghi Trieste Maurizio Giudici; Giuliano Polo, superintendent of the Giuseppe Verdi Opera House Foundation; Piero Lugnani, president of the Concert Society; ESYO orchestra director Igor Coretti; Marco Palazzoni of Hangar Teatri; Rossana Poletti of the Operetta Festival; Luigi Vignando of Vigna PR; Daniele Terzoli from Cinema Nordest; and Elisabetta Sulli of the Triskell Celtic Music Festival.

Now a mainstay of the local summer season, Trieste Estate is organized by the municipality with support from the departments of Education and Family, as well as Urban Development. The program reflects what officials describe as a “polyphonic voice” of the city’s cultural identity, showcasing historic theaters, orchestras, music academies, independent companies, institutions, and associations.

“Our goal is to offer a cultural mosaic that reflects the most authentic, creative, and vibrant side of Trieste,” Councillor Rossi said.

During his remarks, Rossi also paid tribute to Nino Benvenuti, one of Italy’s most celebrated boxers, briefly acknowledging his legacy as a symbol of excellence in Trieste’s sporting history.

Full program details for Trieste Estate 2025 are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
