An expanded evening ferry service between Trieste and Muggia will be introduced this summer, regional officials announced on Thursday. The additional Delfino Verde routes, which will operate from June 14 through September 14, mark a long-anticipated upgrade to the cross-Gulf connection.
The new evening sailings—funded by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region—are the result of a coordinated effort between the regional government, Trieste Trasporti, and the Municipality of Muggia, which had advocated for increased summer service. Officials noted that the enhancements also build on the recent addition of a new vessel to the Delfino Verde fleet.
“This is the product of significant teamwork,” said Regional Councillor Pierpaolo Roberti during a press conference held in Trieste. He was joined by Trieste Trasporti president Maurizio Marzi Wildauer, Muggia mayor Paolo Polidori, deputy mayor Nicola Delconte, and Bianca Jurcich, CEO of Delfino Verde Navigazione.
The new evening departures will include:
From Muggia: 8:20 p.m. (Sundays and holidays only), 9:35 p.m. and 10:50 p.m. (daily)
From Trieste: 7:45 p.m. (Sundays and holidays only), 9:00 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. (daily)
Currently, the final weekday ferry from Trieste leaves at 7:35 p.m., while the last from Muggia departs at 8:05 p.m. On Sundays and holidays, the service ends earlier, with final sailings at 5:30 p.m. from Trieste and 6:05 p.m. from Muggia.
The seasonal extension is expected to support both commuters and tourists, easing evening travel between the two cities during the region’s busiest months.
