Il Rossetti theater opens its 2021-2022 season this Tuesday, 12 October with what promises to be a grand success – Carlo Goldoni’s “Coffee Shop” (La Bottega del Caffè) with inimitable Michele Placido as Don Marzio.

A year and a half after the coronavirus pandemic forced all FVG’s theaters to go dark, silencing a symbol of Trieste and throwing hundreds out of work, some of the industry’s biggest and best known shows are resuming performances this month.

Il Rossetti’s artistic director Paolo Valerio (who started his second season at the theater) doesn’t seize to surprise and brings to the scene one of Italian best known actors, Michele Placido, with unique charisma and charm to keep the audience on the edge of their seats for the duration of Goldoni’s masterpiece.

Goldoni’s Coffee Shop, which will run from Tuesday 12 to Sunday 17, seems to be a perfectly chosen staging for the opening of this season full of hopes of “normality”.

Il Rossetti’s reopening is a high-stakes gamble that theater lovers, culture vultures and screen-weary adventurers are ready to return — vaccinated and masked — to these storied sanctuaries of spectacle and storytelling.
