Teachers at a school in the Friulian town Codroipo were at a loss and heartbroken when Friuli Venezia Giulia went into the so-called “red zone” shutting all the schools across the region.

“We wanted to keep the spirits of our kids up,” one of the organizers, Sandra di Lenardo, Germana Snaidero and Lucia Zamburlini, told us. “So we came up with this idea which became borderless in so many ways.”

The teachers invited their students to start painting postcards during lockdown depicting whatever they were feeling or experiencing at the time. They posted the initiative on their Facebook page and it instantly got picked up by artist around Italy, and eventually around the world.

“We started receiving postcards from Bergamo and other hit hard by pandemic regions of Italy. One artist told us we gave him a reason to go on, painted 30 postcards and sent them to us. I can’t describe how happy we were to receive them!”

The postcards, which are not exhibited at Palazzo della Regione, counts more than 600 pieces from around the world including Australia and Japan.

“I know some day these postcards will be part of history, because of the historical period we’ve all lived through.”

The exhibit is open for visits until 10 December. Please, RSVP by sending an email to gabinetto.cr@regione.fvg.it.

All postcards are for sale starting from 15 euro each and all of the proceeds are to be donated to Burlo Garofolo.
