Over the past couple of years, we have all felt the impact of the pandemic, and the “terza età” is a group that has been affected harder than most. Now, the Associazione De Banfield has launched a new and exciting initiative aimed at offering support to the ederly of Trieste and their families.

The project, “La Borsa Che Dona” or “The Bag that Donates” provides an easy way to support a good cause while doing your Christmas shopping. A team of volunteers has lovingly crafted hand-made bags from generously donated fabrics in a variety of styles, resulting in an assortment of beautiful, sustainable, and unique bags. The styles are mostly made for women and range from clutches to shoulder bags to travel bags, but also include some bags which are better suited to men.

The initiative has gained the support of actor and director Lino Guanciale, actor and writer Daniela Poggi, journalist Giovanna Botteri, and entrepreneur Rossana Bettini Illy.

Guanciale commented, “‘La Borsa Che Dona’ from Associazione De Banfield is a project aimed at supporting frail, elderly people – often forgotten, but they need help in this moment like never before. I am happy to give voice to this beautiful initiative of solidarity. We should all take part and donate hours of support and care to those who need it most.”

Bags are available for purchase beginning November 30th while supplies last.

The prices begin at 30€, which purchases a clutch bag and donates 1 hour of in-home support for an elderly person in need. 90€ purchases a shoulder bag and donates 3 hours of in-home support. 120€ purchases a bag and 4 hours of support. For 150€ you donate 4 hours of support and receive a bag made from upcycled fine scarves. Finally, you can donate 8 hours of in-home support and receive a travel bag for 240€.

To make a purchase, visit www.debanfield.it. The hand-crafted bags will also be available at Casa Viola at via Filzi 21/1 on November 30th and December 1st from 10am to 7pm.

After the 1st, bags may be purchased at this location by appointment only. These one-of-a-kind bags will surely make a unique and meaningful gift for someone on your list this holiday season!
