by In Trieste
We interviewed the recently reelected councilor for culture and tourism, Giorgio Rossi, about the upcoming events in Trieste in the year 2022.
Thank you for finding the time to chat with us. So what’s in store for Trieste in 2022?
My pleasure. Year 2022 will be full of events and initiatives. From very important exhibitions to grand shows. Of course, there are many ifs and buts, but some events are already in the works.
For example?
The Impressionists exhibition at Museo Revoltella in spring is going to be grand. You know, expositions like these take years to prepare and I am happy to say 2022 will be the year we reap what we sowed.
What else is coming up?
The video games exhibit at Salone degli Incanti will be replaced mid-February by an interactive exhibit about the magnificent Frida Kahlo. We have invested a lot in the cultural life of our city and once we’re out of the woods and people can freely travel again, we’re sure many will want to visit Trieste, especially now that Il Sole 24 Ore awarded us the “best Italian city” title.
What about concerts?
I would love to bring Vasco Rossi or Elton John to Trieste, but of course it takes time and effort to make this happen. In fact, it takes years of hard work before an event like this can take place in our city. As of now, we are not allowed to have concerts in piazzas so we would need to find alternative venues.
Other big dreams for Trieste?
I would like to bring the exhibit of Harry Potter to Salone degli Incanti and then Van Gogh to Revoltella. These kind of projects take a lot of time and persistence, but I’m sure we will make it happen before my time in the office is up. And I’m happy to say we have sufficient funds to see this through.
It would probably attract a lot of people to our city.
We are not Milan or Rome, but we are definitely worth discovering. Trieste is a beautiful multicultural city that deserves to be visited and I’m sure in 2022 there will be even more tourists on our streets discovering the beauties of this gem we call home.
