Friuli Venezia Giulia has began to plan the transition into the second phase and with yesterday’s regional decree there are some businesses that can now reopen.

As you probably know by now, Italian regions are free to decide whether to impose stricter rules than the ones set by the government and Friuli Venezia Giulia has definitely been the region with the strictest rules in place. That’s why it almost came as a surprise that as of April 13th we are allowed to exercise in the proximity of our houses (always wearing a mask, of course). Not only that, there are several businesses that can now reopen as of Tuesday, April 13th.

Which businesses are now allowed to operate throughout quarantine?

  • Bookshops
  • Stationery shops
  • Children’s clothing shops
  • Dry cleaners
  • Laundromats

Which business remain running?

  • Supermarkets
  • Grocers
  • Pharmacies
  • Household goods stores
  • Pet shops
  • Home appliances and electronics stores
  • Delivery services

All stores and shops are required to enforce social distancing and provide disposable gloves to their customers. Masks are required at all times and gloves are required while grocery shopping.

Which industries are allowed to resume activity?

  • Manufacturer of computers and other electronics
  • Forestry
  • Landscape maintenance
  • Manufacture of tools and machine parts
  • Manufacture of radiators and heaters
  • Wood and cork industries
  • Wholesale of fertilizers and agricultural chemicals
  • You can find the full list of essential industries here.

It is possible that the Italian government announces other reopenings before the current lockdown restrictions expire on May 3rd. However, most of Italy’s coronavirus restrictions are certain to be extended beyond May 3rd, as the country studies a careful way out of quarantine, which is expected to take several months.
