A new project between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Costa Crociere was presented today at the Region’s HQ, with the help of PromoTurismo FVG, which aims at promoting our region to the incoming tourists.

“We have been given an incredible opportunity as a region,” said president of FVG, Massimiliano Fedriga “Together with Costa Crociere we will be able to create new opportunities with the help of Promoturismo and the city of Trieste, of course. Another stark example is the “I am FVG” brand that we launched this year – it’s a market open to the whole region, a practical example of opportunity and collaboration.”

The projects aims at promoting Friuli Venezia Giulia on board cruise ships, through local cuisine, ad hoc experiences off board (for example, theaters), guided tours in Carso, Aquileia and Collio, as well as integration with local communities. “All of the experiences,” said PromoFVG’s marketing director “will be eco-fiendly.”

Rosella Carrara, CEO of Costa Crociere added: “After two difficult years we decided to revisit the way we wanted to see the touristic attractions. After interviewing many tourists, we understood that they were mostly looking for authentic experiences on the territory. We came up with a manifesto that enables us to feel closer to the communities of Italian cities. Our ships are open and thus they are a possibility of continuous promotion for our guests to taste new foods, meet new people and discover new things. We’ve been in Trieste since 2009 and it’s a city we’ve always believed in. After a poll among our visitors, it was clear that many would want to come back to the places they visited during their cruise.”

Mayor Dipiazza present at the conference said: “I’ve been in power for the past 20 years. When I open my window, I see various countries from it. The tourists always tell me “do you see the beauty you live in”? We have to continue working for the future. In 2001 we decided to focus on tourism and I think in many ways we’ve reached that goal. People coming off the train will see the cruise ships lining up the shore. It’s incredible, really. Our cuisine here is a mix of Friulan, Slovene and Austrian food. Welcome to Trieste! This is just a beginning,” the mayor finished by addressing Ms Carrara.

Regional councilor for tourism Sergio Bini said that “We live in a marvelous country, but it often happens that the novelty is not well accepted. FVG has been growing conspicuously in the recent years and we are one of the most sought after regions in Italy by local and foreign tourists. I mean, it’s incredible to be able to have aperitivi in the mountains and then have dinner by the sea. We decided to come out of our shell and promote our national FVG identity through various means of communication, for example through the partnership with Costa. Trieste is wonderful but also inlands are worth discovering. We have a lot of potential.”
