Local authorities issued a report, backed by Arpa FVG, advising Trieste locals to stay indoors with windows shut.
Trieste has been making meteorological history since Tuesday when temperatures topping 40 degrees Celsius, as a second straight day of record-setting heat gripped parts of Europe. Combined with Carso wildfires and drought in the northern part of Italy, these haven’t been a few easy weeks for our region.
The fires in Carso are now under control in the Italian part, as reported by RaiFVG, but they’re taking over the Slovenian part of Carso, as the hot, dry conditions continue to strain emergency services and bring misery to areas unaccustomed to such sweltering summers.
This morning the Monfalcone – Trieste railway connection was reopened.
There are four active fire outbreaks in FVG, with critical situations in Prepotto and Resia.
Trieste authorities issued a report this Friday afternoon stating that levels of PM10 are abnormally hight in the city, advising everyone to stay indoors when possible with windows shut. All domestic animals should also stay in. It is also advised to wear FFp2 masks when going outside today.
