The 15 boats competing in the Maxi regatta – pre-Barcolana’s first edition of this sailing extravaganza – woke up to zero wind and overcast on Trieste gulf and beyond. The regatta was thus postponed until 12 pm when the wind picked up to 6 nods and the weather cleared up.

Three days before the grand 54th Barcolana regatta, Maxi Race, organized by Portopiccolo Yacht Club, took over Trieste’s coast with 15 maxi boats competing for the trophy.

With the start in Barcola, the regatta which started with minimal wind, was slow but full of technique and zest.

As one of the organizers put it, “only teams with grand passion and dedication can compete in these weather conditions.”

The winners of the Maxi Trophy Portopiccolo (the first race was cut short due to weather conditions on Tuesday) are Slovenian-Italian crew Clean Sport One, followed by Ekita and Anywave Safilens.
