It’s Easter weekend! If you haven’t already planned out your bumper three-day weekend or you find yourself at a loose end, we’ve put together the quick guide of things to do this weekend in Trieste.
Trieste marks Pasqua and Pasquetta with traditions, food and public holidays. Here’s a guick guide on things to do and see this Easter 2025 in Trieste.
Easter Sunday

The Via Crucis or Way of the Cross will take place at the San Giusto on the night of Good Friday, 18 April starting at 9 pm. This solemn candle-lit procession – a tradition which dates to the 18th century and was revived in 1964 – attracts hundreds of faithful who listen to meditations re-enacting Christ’s crucifixion.

The Easter Sunday mass will be celebrated at 10.30 am at the St Giusto Cathedral and other churches across Trieste.
What To Eat
Trieste restaurants typically offer menus featuring agnello (lamb) at Easter, or Pasqua, however you will need to reserve your table in advance due to high demand.

Easter Sunday brunch in Trieste is a savory occasion with Trieste laying out a delectable spread of hard-boiled eggs (often painted brightly), salami and cheese, accompanied with the Triestine pinza, presnitz and titola, which the bakeries have been selling for weeks now – a firm favorite on the Easter calendar in our city by the Adriatic.
Pasquetta
Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, or Pasquetta, are national holidays in Italy, with all public offices and schools closed on Monday 21 April.

For many Triestini Pasquetta is just another reason to venture out to one of the beautiful osmize open in Carso. Great views, food and drinks make for a perfect afternoon with friends. For open osmize, please visit www.osmize.com.

Hikes on Napoleonica Trail and Carso, as well as Bike Path Cottur are also in store for many Triestini this Easter weekend for a digestive walk after a presnitz-filled pranzo.

Trieste’s city-run museums will be open for Pasqua (Easter Sunday) and Pasquetta (Easter Monday).

Snack like a local at one of the beautiful Trieste’s buffets. For evening rendezvous, get a spirtz bianco in one of the beautiful places by the sea.

Some state museums will open exceptionally for Pasqua and Pasquetta, including the Miramare Castle, the Duino Castle as well as Faro della Vittoria.

Two scoops of gelato are a must with the weather this perfect. Here are some suggestions.

Many locals will head to Trieste’s beaches to work on their spring tans and have a picnic by the sea. Here’s our guide to Trieste’s beaches to visit this season.
Kids friendly pasquetta activities
Immaginario Scientifico is open on Pasquetta Monday from 10 am to 6 pm with lots of fun activities for kids & parents alike.
Piazza Horti’s playground is a great outing for kids and adults, with many many kiosks selling ice-cream open this weekend in the center.

As opposed to Christmas, which is very much a family-oriented occasion in Italy, Easter is a time to celebrate with friends. As a popular expression goes: “Natale con i tuoi, Pasqua con chi vuoi“, meaning Christmas with your family, Easter with whoever you want.
