After more than 40 years, Cremcaffé in Piazza Goldoni, known for its 1950s atmosphere, coffee and frappés, is closing its doors with many locals sad to see an important part of their daily lives go.

The pandemic hurt the cafe, which has been a Mecca for Triestini for decades. As other rioni of Trieste, Piazza Goldoni has been affected by the pandemic’s aftermath and the following economic crisis. The popular coffee shop has closed down, like many other commercial activities in the historic center of Trieste thanks to high rents.
Contemporary Triestini unfamiliar with the cafe’s storied life can’t really grasp the lifelong affection and regard that locals held for the big red shop sign beckoning them to come in from any corner of Piazza Goldoni, hefty with promise of a good cup of coffee. “It’s been a big part of our lives. We feel very much like a part of the community. It’s going to be hard to say good-bye,” one customer told us.
The store is looking for a new owner, available right away.
