The works are under way in the Friuli Venezia Giulia capital to make the banks of Trieste bike-friendly.
The project, which was presented by the councilors of the Municipality of Trieste, proposes the construction of a new two-way cycle path on the Banks in the space between the two rows of hedges, the construction of a new panoramic bench on the sea side built with the same design as those present in Piazza Unità, and the remodeling of the blue stalls for car parks which will no longer be arranged in a “herringbone” pattern but parallel to the direction of travel of the vehicles on both sides.
About fifty parking spaces on the Banks will disappear due to the novel path, although the technicians of the Municipality assure that they are doing everything possible to minimize these “losses”.
The bike path will starts from the railway station in piazza della Libertà, continue along the city banks to arrive at the traffic light intersection between via Giulio Cesare, Passeggio Sant’Andrea and via di Campo Marzio, allowing the bypass of the ramp of Campi Elisi, from where it will connect to the current itineraries of the “Campo Marzio – Orlandini” cycle path and consequently the Cottur cycle path.
The new bike path will make it possible to connect the university centers of Androna Campo Marzio and via del Lazzaretto Vecchio with the railway station.
The works, which are already underway, are carried out at night and will last approximately six months. The cost of the project is 590 thousand euro.
