Flying Lina’ is the name of the new eco-sustainable boat designed and built by the Audace Sailing Team, a group of passionate sailing students from the University of Trieste, which was launched on Friday 16 June at the Adriaco Yacht Club in Trieste.

BAI – Flying Lina is the fourth boat (after Dedalo, Lina and BAI – Lina Rossa) created by a team of about sixty students from various study courses born in 2019 as part of a research project led by Rodolfo Taccani, full professor in the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Trieste. The research project aims to identify and build high-efficiency boats using sustainable materials, such as linen and resins of vegetable origin.

The students, combining innovative ideas with cutting-edge design tools, followed all the phases of the work: from the definition of the geometry of the hull, design and analysis of finite elements (FEM) up to the production and construction of the boat, also dealing with the cost analysis and search for sponsors.

BAI – Flying Lina belongs to the small single-seater boat class which, keeping the hull about 60 cm from the surface of the water, can literally “fly” on the surface at great speed.
