Advocating respect for the sea and responsible use of the environment around us, the annual Saccheta Cleanup, which took place on Saturday morning, 2 September, in Trieste, brought back awareness to the continuous need to educate the population on becoming environmentally friendly.

Organized by Mare Nordest S.S.D., with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and the Comune di Trieste, the annual event saw many volunteers, among them scuba divers, devote time for their community’s sake.

“It’s amazing that people still think that it’s ok to throw things in the sea,” the general manager of Mare Nordest, Edoardo Nattelli, told us. “We have to remember that we only have one planet and if we mess it up, that’ll be it.”
