The new addition to an already packed schedule of Barcolana week was presented this afternoon in Grado, where the new Sup Experience will take place on Saturday, 30 September.
The Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano, together with the Municipality of Grado, the GIT, the Lega Navale Italiana section of Grado and the Circolo Canottieri Ausonia, presented today, in the Hall of the Municipal Council of Grado, the zero edition of the Barcolana Sup Experience Grado, a SUP race dedicated to all enthusiasts and in the fullest spirit of the Barcolana, which will be held in Grado with departure along the Spiaggia Imperiale and arrival in the famous Mandracchio.
The event is scheduled for September 30th starting at 9.30am and involves the participation of professional athletes – including the godmother of the event, the great windsurfing, mountain running and SUP champion Caterina Stenta – and enthusiasts of all ages , which will be measured along the 2.2 mile route from the beach to the entrance canal to the lagoon up to the heart of Grado, in the small port of the island.
The sporting part will be managed by the Barcola and Grignano Sailing Society with the support of the Grado Naval League and the Ausonia Rowing Society and the Italian Canoe and Kayak Federation. “Our objective – explained the president of the Barcola and Grignano Sailing Society, Mitja Gialuz – is to grow and include the entire region in Barcolana, including all sea sports enthusiasts. This year we add the discipline of SUP to sailing and open water swimming, which is increasingly loved and practiced in the Upper Adriatic, eco-sustainable and suitable for everyone”.
“I have practiced SUP in many places – said the godmother Caterina Stenta – and I think that Grado is perfect for hosting an event that brings sea enthusiasts closer to this discipline and at the same time also involves professional athletes. The event to look forward to is undoubtedly the one held in Paris on the sidelines of the Boat Show, where thousands of people paddle together on SUPs along the Seine: the spirit of the Barcolana can allow us to reach the same level of notoriety and joy, where the great champions race together with festive enthusiasts”.
The mayor of Grado, Claudio Kovatsch, is satisfied: “I thank Barcolana for this attention towards Grado: together we can work to build an increasingly united image of the Gulf, and extend the tourist season for the benefit of everyone. Grado is thrilled to collaborate with Barcolana.”
Roberto Marin, president of GIT, underlined how “Barcolana is an important promotional vehicle with which to team up: we provide our hospitality and our organizational machinery, and after having organized the concert dedicated to the Violin last year in Trieste di Noè, it is very nice to find ourselves this year in Grado, to conceive and create an event together that is in perfect target with our beaches, dedicated to families who love experiencing the sea together”.
