From 15 to 18 November Trieste will host the #TogetherforSDG initiative, the campaign promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in partnership with FAO, UN SDG Action Campaign, European Commission, CIHEAM Iamb of Bari and Save the Children Italia, in order to raise public awareness of the sustainable development goals.

The campaign will bring interactive installations on Agenda 2030 to the heart of the city of Trieste, which can be visited at the Salone degli Incanti, two high-level events dedicated to scientific cooperation and the role of port cities for sustainable development, with a focus on the Mediterranean area, as well as workshops, educational programs for the little ones organized by Save The Children Italia and the Will Meets event organized by Will Media.

As mentioned during the press conference, #TogetherfortheSDGs was launched in Bari in October 2020 and in 2021 it traveled to the cities of Bari, Teramo, Rome, Prato and Cremona to raise public awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs ) and on the work of the Italian Cooperation and its partners to achieve these objectives in the post-Covid19 world.

“On this tour we visit the main Italian cities that are available to host us – explained the Special Envoy for Food Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Stefano Gatti – and Trieste could not be missing, which represents one of the most important ports – and we come to tell and communicate, especially to the young people, the 17 sustainable Millennium objectives which were approved in 2015 by the Heads of State and Government which have a deadline of 2030 contained in the Agenda, but also to tell the projects – and in the case of Trieste the major development that will concern the Porto Vecchio – and the impact that these will have on achieving the set objectives. “.

“For the city of Trieste – continued Gatti – the event will constitute a great opportunity to illustrate, also with concrete examples, to citizens, young people and the entire community the many important projects under construction, but above all an opportunity to enhance the role of Trieste as an important port reality. In this delicate historical moment, we are working to stabilize the Mediterranean area and the port of Trieste and its development and strengthening represent an important step in this sense”.

Specifically – as illustrated by Gatti – the conference “Trieste: Science for the 2030 Agenda” will be held on 15 November at 11.30 am in the Salone degli Incanti with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, of the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, of the Regional Councilor for Work, Training, Education, Research and University, Alessia Rosolen, of the President of Area Science Park, Caterina Petrillo and of the representatives of the International Scientific Pole of Trieste. The official inauguration of the #TogetherforSDG installations will be held immediately afterwards.

The final event of the four days in Trieste of the #InsiemepergliSDG campaign, “Italian port cities: window on the Mediterranean” will take place on 18 November at 11.30 in the Sala Luttazzi of Magazzino 26 in Porto Vecchio (now Porto Vivo).

Following this, at 5.30 pm, the Will MEETS event will be held at the Contamination Lab of the University of Trieste to activate local media partnerships.

Each stage of #TogetherforSDG contributes to a path that creates links and relationships between the partners promoting the initiative and local realities with the aim of bringing out and enhancing the best local experiences. The initiative supports and develops sharing paths through training and teaching, participatory politics, active citizenship, play and creativity. Finally, the initiative develops partnerships with local media to promote the campaign messages and participation in the area.

From 15 to 18 November, from 9am to 6pm, it will also be possible to visit the interactive installation #InsiemepergliSDG at the Salone degli Incanti.

An integral part of the #TogetherforSDG campaign are the traveling installations to inform and empower visitors on the sustainable development objectives and the role that each individual can play in achieving them and to show, with practical examples, how the Italian Cooperation and its numerous international partners , national and local, work in Italy to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs, informing young people, students, families and citizens about the common commitment to sustainable development.
