“The commencement of the demolition of dilapidated structures at Porto Lido marks a pivotal step in the extensive revitalization of the city of Trieste, focusing particularly on the coastal area and the reclamation of long-neglected spaces. This ambitious redevelopment project has materialized through a robust institutional alliance.”
These are the words of Governor Massimiliano Fedriga, who witnessed the action of bulldozers initiating the dismantling of structurally compromised buildings in the Porto Lido area, near the iconic Lantern of Trieste. Alongside him were Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, the President of the Chamber of Commerce Venezia Giulia Antonio Paoletti, and the Secretary of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, Vittorio Torbanielli.
“Finally, after years of effort, we have succeeded in launching the works,” observed Fedriga. “The comprehensive interventions underway along the waterfront, notably the redevelopment of the Old Port where the new regional headquarters will stand, underscore a European-level vision capable of attracting investments and reshaping the city.”
As noted by Paoletti, the activation of the bulldozers also signifies the irrevocable starting point for the Sea Park 5.0 project, with its aim of urban regeneration and innovative, sustainable development for Trieste. Mayor Dipiazza recalled the series of interventions involving various stakeholders in the area around the old Lantern, addressing the relocation of the produce market as well.
