In a significant development, Ecothema Social Cooperative Society, the concessionaire for the educational services of the Civic Museums of Science in Trieste from September 2023, has unveiled its upcoming series of informative events titled “Dialogues of Science.”

Scheduled to take place at the Civic Museum of Natural History in Trieste, located at 4 Via dei Tominz, the series consists of five events commencing with the inaugural session on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Subsequent sessions will unfold through March 2024. The primary objective is to provide updates and in-depth insights into scientifically significant topics, actively engaging the community in the understanding of science.

The “Dialogues of Science” series aims to revisit and update the audience’s knowledge on various scientific subjects, with a specific focus on recent discoveries that have significantly reshaped the understanding of numerous phenomena and processes in the realm of science. These topics have been meticulously chosen based on surveys and direct dialogues with participants in educational and outreach activities, leveraging Ecothema’s extensive experience in museum education.

Topics covered will span the origins of humanity, traversing recent discoveries in paleoanthropology, particularly delving into new theories revolutionizing our comprehension of this subject. From the captivating world of butterflies, an event dedicated to raising awareness about insect conservation, often overlooked in environmental discussions, will shed light on lepidopterans and their role in the ecosystem.

The series will delve into the evolution of species, exploring common ideas and misconceptions about natural selection’s role in evolution, with a reflection on modern scientific interpretations of the concept. A session on the Neanderthal will analyze the life of this intriguing human species and its relationship with Homo sapiens, contextualizing and clarifying frequently misunderstood concepts, while discussing the latest fossil findings and DNA evidence.

The series will conclude by focusing on the prehistoric crocodile Acynodon, an exceptional fossil from the Fisherman’s Village often overshadowed by the fame of dinosaurs. Unique characteristics and its role in the Cretaceous ecosystem will be explored.

Each session includes a presentation in the meeting hall and a guided tour of the relevant exhibition spaces at the Museum of Natural History, aiming to make the experience as immersive and educational as possible.
