A nationwide 24-hour strike is set to disrupt local public transport services in Italy on Monday, November 27. Commuters in Trieste and various other Italian cities will be affected by the industrial action, called for by multiple trade unions representing public transport workers.
This marks the fifth such protest in just over two months, following a general strike staged by unions 10 days ago. The previous strike aimed to address issues such as demanding salary increases and expressing discontent with the government’s 2024 budget bill.
Tensions rose last week when Italy’s transport minister, Matteo Salvini, issued an injunction to mitigate the impact of the November 17 strike on the country’s transport network, reducing the protest duration from 24 hours to four hours. This move further fueled the dissatisfaction of the unions.
Scheduled for 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and from 8:00 PM until the conclusion of service, the impending strike in Trieste is poised to significantly impact TPL services, as detailed on the mobility website of the FVG capital.
Reasons behind the strike encompass calls for improved wages, enhanced working conditions, heightened workplace safety, and opposition to privatization.
