In preparation for the upcoming Jubilee 2025, the Department for Evangelization continues its cultural initiatives as part of the “Il Giubileo è cultura” exhibition. The third scheduled exhibition is the international display titled “100 Presepi in Vaticano,” showcasing works by numerous artisans depicting the Nativity scene in various imaginative representations.
This year’s exhibition features, among others, a standout nativity scene crafted by a 10-year-old girl, Aurora Biason, from Cordenons in the province of Pordenone. Remarkably, her creation is made entirely of pasta, adding a distinctive touch to the diverse representations on display.

In a nod to Italy’s commitment to sustainability, last year’s nativity scene in St. Peter’s Square was hailed from Sutrio in Friuli Venezia Giulia. This remarkable piece was crafted entirely from wood sourced from fallen trees, ensuring that no trees were cut down for its construction. This year’s nativity scene is from Rieti, a place near Rome.
The exhibition was inaugurated at 4:00 PM on Friday, December 8, under the left colonnade of Bernini’s Colonnade in St. Peter’s Square. Monsignor Rino Fisichella, the pro-prefect of the Department for Evangelization, and the Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See, Francesco Di Nitto, were present at the opening ceremony. The showcase, celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Greccio nativity scene, will run until Sunday, January 7, 2024, and feature over 120 nativity scenes from 22 countries.
