Ski Season Soars: Over 16,500 Thrill-Seekers Hit the Slopes in Friuli Venezia Giulia’s Opening Weekend

The winter sports season is officially underway in Friuli Venezia Giulia, and the opening weekend has seen impressive numbers across the region’s six resorts. From Friday to today, a total of 16,541 skiers hit the slopes, making 158,907 passes and generating a revenue of 295,000 euros in just three days.

Leading the pack in attracting skiers was Zoncolan, recording a total of 4,866 first entries, followed closely by Tarvisio with 4,511 and Piancavallo with 3,616. To put it in perspective, last season’s opening weekend, between December 16 and 18, saw a total of 13,457 first entries.

As the extended weekend marking the official start of the ski season comes to an end, here’s a detailed look at the upcoming openings across the various resorts, with the next update scheduled for December 13 for weekend developments:

  • Piancavallo will keep the following slopes open: Campo scuola Daini, Genzianella, Casere, Casere 2, Casere 3, Ski weg Sauc, Busa Grande, served by the Daini, Genzianella, and Busa carpets, as well as the Casere and Busa Grande chairlifts. The bob on rails will remain closed until the weekend.
  • Sappada/Forni Avoltri: In Sappada, the Campetto 1 ski lift and slope will be accessible, and starting Thursday, the Pian dei Nidi chairlift will resume operation with its corresponding slope. Nevelandia is set to open on December 18. In Forni Avoltri, the biathlon facility, Carnia Arena center in Piani di Luzza, will remain open with two out of the ten kilometers of tracks.
  • Forni di Sopra/Sauris: In Sauris, the facilities will remain closed until Friday, while in Forni di Sopra, the Davost area will remain open, featuring the Davost, Campo scuola Davost, and first steps carpets, as well as the Davost ski lift. The Fantasy Park will reopen over the weekend.
  • Ravascletto/Zoncolan: The Monte Zoncolan funicular and Valvan chairlift will stay open, along with the Zoncolan 3 and 4 slopes, and the Lausc and Cima Zoncolan carpets with their respective ski school areas. Pradibosco is scheduled to open, weather permitting, on December 18.
  • Tarvisio: The Lussari gondola remains open, providing access to the upper part of the Di Prampero slope.
  • Sella Nevea: All facilities, including the Canin gondola, Prevala funicular, Gilberti chairlift, and Campo scuola carpet, will remain open, featuring the Rifugio Cai 1, Gilberti, and Prevala slopes, as well as the first and second ski school areas, the cross-country trail, and a route dedicated to ski mountaineers. The connection to the Bovec station will stay closed.
