In a resounding show of protest, thousands of devout Muslims have flocked to Monfalcone (Gorizia) on Saturday, 23 December to decry Mayor Anna Maria Cisint’s decision to close their places of worship.
This morning, demonstrators swarmed into town from various corners of the Northeast, hailing from places like Mestre, Pordenone, and even Rimini.
A massive procession is weaving through the streets, led by a banner boldly declaring, ‘We are all Monfalconese.’ Proudly waving both the tricolor and European Union flags, participants make their sentiments known.
“We’re Italian citizens—we pay our taxes, speak fluent Italian, and contribute to the nation’s prosperity. Shutting down our prayer spaces is unconstitutional. We faced similar challenges in other cities, but we took our case to the Administrative Court (Tar), which ruled in our favor,” proclaimed some of the impassioned demonstrators, ANSA reports.
