Get ready for a musical extravaganza on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 5:00 PM at Muggia’s Teatro Verdi. The renowned Wind Orchestra “Città di Muggia” is set to host its traditional Epiphany event, promising an evening filled with good vibes, happiness, and well wishes for the year ahead. This year’s auspicious concert, titled “A Beastly Epiphany,” is dedicated entirely to musical compositions inspired by and dedicated to animals.
Under the direction of maestro Andrea Sfetez, more than 50 orchestra members, along with numerous featured soloists, will showcase their talents in a rich and evocative program suitable for all ages, introducing the youngest audience members to the world of authentic music in a sweet and empathetic manner.
The performance will kick off with a rendition of Sergei Prokofiev’s musical fairy tale, “Peter and the Wolf,” narrated for the occasion by the esteemed Marzia Postogna, the evening’s honored guest and a local resident. The first half of the program promises to be a milestone in the dedicated repertoire, setting the stage for an enchanting experience.
During the intermission, a delightful surprise awaits the young attendees – a playful “hunt for the intruding animal.”
Maestro Sfetez teases that the second half will be even more exhilarating, featuring presentations of the Lipizzaner Horses, the Strolling Dog, the Waltz of the Cat, the perilous Hornet, and concluding with a splendid selection from “The Carnival of the Animals,” a unique composition highlighting the characteristics of lions, swans, turtles, elephants, and more through notes, rhythms, and chords.
“The finale,” Sfetez concludes, “will be accompanied by an exhibition and projection of drawings created by the young students of our music school, dedicated to the pedagogical maestro from Muggia, Luigi Mauro. These artworks express the emotions inspired by the music through signs and colors. Admission is free.”
The curtain rises at 5:00 PM sharp.
True to tradition, this year’s concert pays tribute to the memory of Adelio Sfetez, the founder of the former Muggia City Band “Amici della Musica,” now the Wind Orchestra “Città di Muggia,” and a great advocate for Muggia’s musical culture.
