As the upcoming New Year’s Eve approaches, the city anticipates the traditional celebrations that will engage the entire municipal area. The Municipality of Trieste, acting under the urgency provision of Article 50, Paragraph 5 of Legislative Decree 267/2000, has imposed a ban on the possession of beverages in glass containers and alcoholic beverages in any container. The aim is to prevent circumstances that could contribute to significant degradation of the territory and harm the aesthetics and urban livability during the New Year’s Eve festivities.
From 8:00 PM on December 31, 2023, to 2:30 AM on January 1, 2024, within the confines of Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, specifically in the area designated for the New Year’s Eve spectacle, the following prohibitions are in effect:
- It is prohibited to introduce any kind of beverage in cans and glass containers, and, in general, to introduce, administer, and consume alcoholic beverages (defined as beverages with an alcohol content exceeding 1.2 degrees) in any type of container.
- Exceptions include home delivery restricted to transportation, and the provision by public establishments of beverages to customers utilizing fixed or mobile structures (such as chairs, tables, armrests, etc.) located outside these establishments exclusively within their relevant areas.
- It is prohibited to introduce or possess objects capable of causing offense or danger (including but not limited to umbrellas, folding chairs, selfie sticks, pepper spray, etc.).
The prohibition extends to the area encompassed by the following streets and squares: Largo Città di Santos, Piazza della Libertà, Via Pauliana, Via Udine, Via S. Martiri, Piazza Dalmazia, Via Fabio Severo, Via Coroneo, Via del Ronco, Via Marconi, Via Volta, Via Tomizza, Via Giulia, Piazza Volontari Giuliani, Via Giulia, Viale Sanzio, Via Lippi, Strada di Guardiella, Via Pindemonte, Via Crispi, Via Rossetti, Piazzale De Gasperi, Viale Ippodromo, Piazza Foraggi, Via della Tesa, Via Salem, Via Rigutti, Viale D’Annunzio, Via Lorenzo Bernini, Piazza del Sansovino, Via del Bosco, Piazza Vico, Via Bramante, Via San Giusto, Via San Michele, Via Cavana, Via SS. Martiri, Largo Papa Giovanni, Via dell’Università, Salita Promontorio, Via Lazzaretto Vecchio, Via Economo, Via di Campo Marzio, Largo Chino Alessi, and Via Giulio Cesare (including the parking area in front of the La Lanterna bathing establishment) and the Rive, from Via Giulio Cesare to Piazza della Libertà.
It is prohibited to possess and consume beverages of any kind in bottles or glass or metal containers, as well as alcoholic beverages (defined as beverages with an alcohol content exceeding 6 degrees) in any type of container, whether in public or private areas for public use.
Exceptions include home delivery restricted to transportation and the provision by public establishments of beverages to customers utilizing fixed or mobile structures (such as chairs, tables, armrests, etc.) located outside these establishments, in accordance with the hours and regulations specified in the Regulations for the coexistence between residential functions and public and leisure activities in private, public, and demesne areas.
