On Wednesday, January 17, at 5:30 PM, in the Bazlen Hall of Gopcevich Palace at 4 Rossini Street in Trieste, the photographer Ugo Borsatti will celebrate his 97th birthday.
This free-entry event, organized by Claudia Colecchia, will allow attendees, on a first-come, first-served basis, to delve into the archive owned by the CRTrieste Foundation. The archive comprises approximately 350,000 film negatives, a portion of which is already available in the online catalog of civic museums at https://beniculturali.comune.trieste.it/.
This celebration is part of the initiatives related to the exhibition “Behind the Scenes of Palazzo Gopcevich: Among the Treasures of the Phototecha,” conceived and implemented by the Tourist Promotion, Museums, Cultural and Sports Events Service of the Municipality of Trieste. The exhibition is curated by Claudia Colecchia, head of the Phototeque and Library of the Civic Museums of History and Art.
In a series of nested boxes, the exhibition aims to first describe the container – the palace that preserves photographic treasures – revealing the stories of owners and tenants from 1850 to the present. It then delves into the construction of the richest regional photographic archive, a visual memory of the city of Trieste and beyond, through the work of key figures, including Ugo Borsatti.
The exhibition is open to the public until April 7 and is free of charge, every day from Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Mondays), from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On the occasion of the event, the exhibition will remain open until 7:00 PM.
