Muggia Carnival, a historic celebration, is set to mark its 70th anniversary with a significant boost in support from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. Regional President Massimiliano Fedriga, alongside local leaders, announced the unprecedented recognition, placing the carnival among major events for the first time.

For the 2024 edition, the region is providing substantial funding, complemented by support from the Ministry of Culture. In collaboration with PromoTurismoFVG, the organizers will extend promotional efforts beyond the city, including guided tours for tourists. The heightened financial backing underscores the carnival’s cultural significance.

The festivities kick off on February 8th with the traditional opening ceremony at Marconi Square, concluding on February 14th with the Carnival’s funeral. The main event, featuring a grand masquerade parade on February 11th, is expected to be a genuine street spectacle. Attendees can now secure dedicated seating in grandstands, available online through Ticketpoint.

Participating companies have revealed exciting themes for the 70th edition, promising a vibrant display during the parade. Highlights include La Trottola’s “The Enigmatic Top” and Bulli e Pupe’s “…Action!…It’s Rolling!” The comprehensive schedule features popular events like the giant omelette in Marconi Square and the traditional Vegetable Ball.

This year’s focus extends to children, with various free activities, including the return of the Doll Dance. The Carnival’s outreach goes beyond the streets, with updates available on social media channels managed by the Municipality of Muggia (“Il Carnevale di Muggia”) and the Carnival Companies Association (“Carneval de Muja”).

As anticipation builds for the event’s kickoff on February 8th, Muggia Carnival’s 70th anniversary promises to be a cultural extravaganza, supported by regional and national recognition.
