The Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission has announced a funding of €500,000 for the “Boundless Shorts” initiative, coinciding with the “Go!2025” event in Nova Gorica and Gorizia.

The project aims to produce five short films capturing the essence of the border town, Nova Gorica, and Gorizia, on the occasion of “Go! 2025,” designated as the European Capital of Culture. The call, supported by the Directorate of Culture and Sport, invites filmmakers to explore and showcase the unique cultural aspects, history, and identity of the border region.

These shorts, running between 10 to 20 minutes, will kick off and conclude their narrative at a symbolic location—the Transalpina/Trg Evrope square, symbolizing the breakdown of borders.

Eligible production companies, based in European Union countries, candidate countries, potential candidates, and EFTA nations, can submit their proposals by March 31, 2024. A jury, led by an internationally acclaimed director, will evaluate the projects in January.

The selected five short films, each eligible for a maximum grant of €100,000, are expected to be completed and delivered by October 30, 2024. However, for promotional purposes, the FVG Film Commission may request individual project trailers by August 15, 2024.

The initiative, part of the “European Capital of Culture GO! 2025” program, is seen as an opportunity to attract visitors and showcase the rich cultural tapestry of Gorizia, emphasizing its significance as a borderland.
